High School Musical Time!

My girls have been SO excited about tonight! What is tonight you ask? High School Musical Time of course! If you have a youngish daughter, you know what I mean! This is not only a show... it is a HUGE deal. A made for TV movie that is hugely popular!

My 7 year old daughter Madeline went to the High School Musical website a week ago and started printing out things and making a list. When I asked her what she was doing, she let me know that she was planning a High School Musical party and let me know all the things we needed:

red carpet
kid pack boxes for snacks (like at the movies)
frames (to take a picture of each guest as they arrive)
snacks
poster
I chuckled to myself and then started making mental notes. :) After all, I aim to please! LOL I thought it was a really cute idea and set out planning. The girls wanted to invited Kieley and Kelsey. They are the daughters of a great friend of mine, Dora. :) Of COURSE they had to say yes. It was the IT party of the year (plus they were the only invitees LOL).
Earlier this week I went to a movie theater and asked to speak to a manager. I explained my daughter's plan and asked (with puppy dog eyes) for 5 kid pack movie boxes. She gladly handed them over and I was SO grateful. Then, I went and found a red rug from Walmart, bought the soundtrack (for mood setting LOL), got some snacks and goodies the girls could take home with them.

First up was the red carpet. Each girl had to check in so we could make sure she was on the guest list. The door men let them in one at a time and issued them $15 in movie cash. They strutted their stuff down the red carpet while paparazzi shot pictures. :)

Then it was inside for craft time! There were 2 projects for each girl to make. One of them was a notebook made with the bind-it-all. (side note-YES I fell victim to the bind-it-all, but I will tell you about that another day). I printed out some cute paper from http://tv.disney.go.com/disneychannel/originalmovies/highschoolmusical2/ . I had some cut mat board for the back piece, the covers were to cut to size and I also had some copy paper cut for the inside of the notebooks. After a quick tutorial, they each made their OWN High School Musical notebook. I gave them each a pencil to match. :) Then, I had prepped some picture frames from the same web site above. The sample was made by my husband. He used his Simpsonized avatar picture and actually stamped his own name! LOL The girls enjoyed this project! Each of them were hounded by paparazzi on the red carpet and those are the pictures we used in their frames to commemorate the fun evening!

After craft time, they ate some yummy pizza. They had the choice of milk or water since the concession stand hadn't opened yet.

After Pizza, they went out to play with my son and his friend. They all played hide and go seek and had a great time.
9 pm was showtime. My husband popped the popcorn and the concession stand opened 5 minutes before showtime. The girls each purchased a kid pack box filled with popcorn, a drink and some sour punch twists. Squirt is the drink of choice for all 4 of them and each was finished off with a sour punch straw they can drink through. :) Kelsey and Kieley also purchased a High School Musical soundtrack each. :) I was surprised they haven't asked for any of the TEN boxes of "movie candy" I bought. LOL Maybe later. :)

I am sitting over here smiling from ear to ear knowing that they all are having a great time and enjoying their movie! I even had a few happy tears. LOL (those of you who know me KNOW I am sentimental)

They are SO quiet over there! I can only hear the crunching of their munchies and an occasional giggle. :)

Back to being a concession stand worker. I think they may be ready for refills. :)

Have a GREAT night!

  14. You ROCK, and I'm sure your daughter and her friends totally agree with me! What an awesome experience you created for them! My daughter went hiking in Tahoe with her Dad. She was disappointed that she missed it, but I taped it for her so she can watch it tomorrow. The wheels are turning--how will I duplicate some of what you've done--hmmmmmm?

My daughter is going to be sixteen and still have two other friends over to watch the movie as well. They had a great time. I'm kind of glad they still like acting like kids. TFS!
