Little Tees

Surprise! I am a guest designer for Melanie's new set released by Gina K this month! YAY! I met Melanie in Arlington and she was so sweet! I was surprised and honored when she asked me to design with her new and different set. When I first saw it I was SO excited and impressed! This is truly a unique set with so many possibilities!

The very first idea that came to mind was my 2 daughters and their different personalities. I wanted to make them a little something to hang on their prized bulletin board that would remind them that I love them both and appreciate them for who they are.

I think it's time for a little back story... when we moved (6 weeks ago) my husband and I purchased all 3 of our kids a new comfy bed. With their new comfy beds, came the need for new comfy bed linens. I being the PRACTICAL one in the house preferred that the girls get something that coordinated so I could decorate their room nicely and it would be all matchy matchy. They being the SWEET GIRLS they are... wanted different sets to match their personalities. We searched 5 or 6 stores, but they wanted what they wanted. They were willing to compromise to the other sisters taste, but neither was happy about it. We had words... we had tears... we had drama. FINALLY after HOURS of looking and negotiating, my husband being the caring dad he is put a stop to all the drama. He told them to each get what they wanted and that was the end of it. He told them we would decorate the best we could and we would make it look cute despite one being blue, celery and brown and the other being hot pink, black, yellow, teal and MORE. *sigh* Can you see my dilemma? LOL Well, each girl got their very own bed set in their very own style and I left feeling like I had won the worst mother of the year award. Looking back, it wasn't THAT big of a deal. I should have been more flexible, but I am who I am and I do my best. :) It was a good thing he was there to calm the storms and make everyone happy again. He uses a line: "that's why I'm Dad." LOL Thanks, Dad for being there to make everyone ok and for showing me that colors that clash are OK. LOL (he is color blind by the way) *wink*

OK, back to my creation... Bailey is sassy and girly. She goes by Princess. Madeline tries to be a rocker chick. She plays a mean guitar hero! :)

When creating their tees, I thought of them and their personality. Note that in "normal" life, I would NOT pair soft sky and bright yellow, but this is for THEM and they will like it, so I am good with it. :)

When I was done with it, I showed them and they went bananas! They LOVED it! Maybe I earned back a bit of my award winning mother of the year in that moment. :) After they thanked me, the next question was: CAN WE MAKE OUR OWN TEE SHIRT? LOL They are CRAZY over this set! They went to work creating their own tee shirts (which I will share with you in the next couple days). They are so excited about this set and told me they wished it came in a "life sized" form so they could create their own REAL tee shirts. For now, they are loving using it on paper. I think this would make an excellent birthday or Christmas gift for a little girl. I know mine LOVE it and TRUST ME... they know a thing or two about stamping and they know the good stuff when they see it. :)

The hanger was purchased at Hobby Lobby. It had a notepad on it, but I ripped it off and gave it to the girls so I could use the hanger for my vision. :)

I will be back in the next couple days to show you even more samples with this adorable set! :)

  6. Those are so cute! I have to go check out the whole set! One of my daughter's has the exact teal bed set - the other one has the coordinating pink and brown one. It's funny how different sisters can be. The one with the pink is so girly girl, loves pink and bling! The other one does not like "girl" stuff or girl colors. She's more into her soccer and mud, etc.

  9. I think your daughters' bedding is adorable but can realte to wanting everything to coordinate and look good. My daughter (who is 18 and leaving me for college this year) has a pretty bright room. We painted it Sherwin Williams Capri with bright squares and rectangles of color on 1 wall and it is beautiful. We boldly painted the whole room Capri and it's like being in the middle of a Caribbean ocean. I think that the Capri color would go with each of your girl's bedding and would help pull it together a little--even if you just did one accent wall.

  10. Your tees are fantastic Jody! I love both of your daughters' beds too! Hehe. Could you do like a turquoise color for accents...maybe one that is in between the different shades in each set? I don't know. Just a though! :D

  14. I'm mad at you ... why? Because the whole idea of "personalized" t-shirts is stinkin' adorable. I would love to do it as a gift for my 5th graders at the end of the year... I think I'm going to need me this set! And it's all your fault!

  15. Oh my gosh, Jody -- I love it!!! I can totally relate to your story, since three of my four kids are girls, and each one is totally different! I love that your girls wanted to make their own tees -- I can see mine doing that, too! Gotta have that set! :)

  16. Very cute idea and adorable T's for your very individual girls . . . great little hanger!

  17. Wonderful story...and I can complete relate! I have four girls and my three older ones share a huge room. We have been looking for a comforter set that each of them loves, but NO ONE wants to compromise. I guess I will take a page from your book and just resign myself that they're individual style has to shine through so I WILL LET them choose the ones they love. Never mind that it will not coordinate. Girls will be girls...I guess they take that "stubbornness" from me (although I tell my DH that they get it from him)!

  18. HEY JODY! Paint the one of the girls' walls turquoise (or a big 12" turquoise stripe 3/4" of the way up the wall) to pull those sets together. Both have that same blue, it will look GREAT!

( I used to design, remember?)

OH, and you let the girls use your COPICS? WOW, you ARE Mom of the year. If any of my 4 kids get near them I get the whip out, even for the 18 year old! HA HA! (i don't really have a whip...)

The girls did a great job! I didn't think you were old enough to have kids older than 1 year old, you look young, girl! Of course, not many people think I should have a 18 year old either..

HUGS, on to the next post!
