Textured Sock Monkey

I felt like stamping a card tonight and went into my stamp room ready to play with some of my new stamps. I literally have a PILE of stamps I have bought that need some lovin'. I saw Mr. Sock Monkey sitting there and decided to save the untouched stamps for another day and use him again. He is just SO darn cute! What is wrong with me? When did I start liking sock monkeys? LOL

This time, I was all about the texture. I wanted to make him more sock monkeyish (yes, it's a word... I said so). Last time he was fluorescent green... this time... an aged pumpkin and caramel. He was colored with Copic markers. The orange polka dots were hand drawn. I pierced holes on him and hand stitched the linen thread that is holding his arms, legs, tail and bootie on. Next time, I will only put two stitched on each limb. It was VERY close and the holes were on the verge of ripping and becoming one. EEK! I would have been maaaaaaad since I had already colored him. LOL The hat and cupcake were colored, then cut out and adhered with a black dimensional booster. The "fluff" coming out of the top of Mr. Sock Monkey's hat is some burlap that I shredded. The caramel panel is stamped with CHF's burlap BG stamp and embossed with clear EP. I added some caramel brads to the corners to stay with the natural tones. Some pumpkin pie textured card stock for the base finished off the card well.

This card took me forever to make. It took a whole Jewel CD (newish CD that I LOVE) and most of Taylor Swift. :) Geesh! Fact about me: I listen to music when I stamp. Occasionally if someone is stamping with me, I turn it off, but for the most part I am a music stamper. :)

Stamps: Sock Monkey SU (being released in the new catalog which is released on Aug 11th), CHF burlap, birthday stamps SU (no clue which set... I broke apart most of my SU sets and now have 2 "birthday drawers")

Ink: Memento black, versamark

Paper: caramel, black, pumpkin, PTI white

Accessories: caramel brads, linen thread, black dimensional boosters, Nestabilities, circle punch, burlap strands, clear EP, paper needle

  2. Hey, Jody!!!
I'm still not a fan of the sock monkey yet.....but you're swaying me pretty close to the edge with the cuties you've posted the past couple of days! You're a darn good enabler, ya' know that?!?!
I'm sure you---the queen of fabulous tips, tricks, ideas and good old 'aha!' moments----knows this already.....but when trimming or working with a very narrow or tiny portion of an image, or with a flimsy piece of cardstock....I often start out by covering the back of the whole image with plain old shiny wrapping tape or packing tape first. It gives a lot of sturdiness to the image during trimming, and sure does cut down on the frustration of tearing a delicate part of an image after you're almost done trimming or 'tweaking' it! Like I said, though....you're the queen of ideas, but if you haven't heard of this one yet---it really does make a huge difference!!
Have a great day! Pam (4Hounds)

  12. I haven't really given music and stamping alot of attention. Maybe that's why my cards aren't nearly as cute as yours! Love the sock monkey, which surprises me, because I didn't when I first saw him as the release! Jeanne

    The stitches are perfect...brilliant Jody!

Think I'll have to borrow my daughters CD player and move it to my stamp area...if playing music helps create works of art like this...I'll give it a go!
