Merry & Bright

Here is the 4th card I made using Jen's sketch. I guess I really liked it huh? LOL

This card ended up in a totally different way than I had planned. When I started I had a piece of patterned paper I was using for color inspiration. After I had colored the Cuppie it just didn't fit with the paper.

That leads me to a Jody Rule.
  • When putting things together on a card, consider the "style" of each piece when deciding whether they will go together. For example, I started with a somewhat elegant piece of patterned paper with this card. It didn't "feel" right with the image because it was too elegant for the image. Make sense? If you color a field of "cute" flowers in bright colors, you wouldn't want to add some gold swirly ribbon to it. It is a different style. Choose one and go with it.

Ok, back to the card. :)

As I said, I started with patterned paper, but it wasn't working so I removed it and went with a very tame kraft, chocolate and white color combo. I wanted the Cuppie's red to pop. I decided to be different and stamp the Cuppie on Kraft card stock. I colored with Copic markers. Then, I added red Stickles... and had to walk away for the night. LOL DANG I don't like having to be patient. *sigh*

Did you know when I first used Stickles I thought it was totally gross because there was all this globby glue everywhere! LMBO! I didn't realize it would shrink down and dry flat. I thought it would be a big globby mess! Of course that was AFTER I had accumulated about a dozen colors of Stickles. Then, one day I decided to squirt some on a piece of paper and wait overnight for it to dry so I could see what it looked like. *shakes head at self*

I got off track again... ok... so the next morning I stitched everything together and finished the card. I left it sitting on my desk and went shopping at Walmart. While I was there I strolled through the craft aisle and found some cool Martha Stewart snow glitter stuff. Unlike other "snow" glitter I have found that have a pinkish or purplish tint to them, this one was WHITE/CLEAR. YAY for not having color matching issues. LOL I bought it ($8.95 for a fairly decent sized bottle).

When I came home I scanned my stamp room for something to SNOW up. There it was... my freshly finished card. It couldn't run so I grabbed it and squirted Crystal Effects on the antlers on top of the cupcake. Then I tossed snow all over the glue. Then... I waited... AGAIN. LOL It was perfect placement, really. It was already snowing on my card. See those big ol' snowflakes on there? LOL I like the look. It is subtle, yet adds some interest. What do you think? Will you let it snow in YOUR stamp space? :)

  8. Delicious! Love the color combo...craft, chocolate, and white. I always have to study your creations for awhile as I find more luscious details (like the little cupcake row at the top!) Another Jody rule? It's like getting extra frosting! :)
