Red Velvet

I made this card using my new stamps from MFT. This stamp set is called It's a Cupcake Kind of Day and is SO cute! The set contains 2 cupcakes that are large enough to be embellished well, plus the cute sentiment. I am in love with it. It is super cute!
I made my cupcake RED VELVET! I am not even sure what flavor red velvet is, but I DO have a funny story about red velvet cake. I won't share it with you because I am SURE you don't want to hear it, but let's just say I thought I was bleeding internally! LMBO! After my hubby notified me that he too, was bleeding internally I was much calmer! *shakes head at self*

I used my chunky glass glitter (diamond dust) on this cupcake as sugar sparkles. :) I was reminded that I have a HUGE tub of this stuff after my friend Michele posted on her blog about using them because I made her buy them! LOL It is REALLY cool stuff... plus you get a lifetime supply for $9! :)

The cupcake was colored with Copic markers and then cut out. I used my new labels 1 Nestabilities for the piece behind the cupcake. I love those things. They are SO cool! I added a cherry stem by taping a sliver of brown cardstock behind the cherry. This card follows MFT sketch challenge #46! (click to see the sketch)

I have received many comments about my sewing. I assure you I am a novice! I don't sew clothing (although I did make some poodle skirts once LOL). I just practiced and have learned to line up pretty well. Plus, if I make a mistake I either cover it up, or TOSS IT! LOL Thanks for all the kind comments about it. :) You all are SO sweet to me!

Speaking of sweet... here is a SWEET deal from MFT:

  2. Great card!

Red Velvet, by the way, is dutch chocolate cake, with an entire bottle of red food coloring added to it. That would explain your internal bleeding concerns. LOL!

  3. My family is from the South and Red velvet is really a Southern thing, but it has slave/plantation roots. In the Carribean plantations where they did not grow sugar caine they grew sugar beets and once those were crystalized they were as sweet as sugar so when they made Red Velvet cake, which is chocolate, they used the sugar beets in the cake to sweeten it, and that gave it its blood red appearance. Now when people make it, they just use devils food cake mix with red food coloring, or Duncan Hiens makes a box mix, but my mom found an Islander store here in the Bay Area that sells the sugar beet, so I make mine with a very old family recipe.

  4. Hey Jody: As a fellow Texan I know what you are talking about with the red velvet (bleeding, heehee). Isn't Red Velvet Cake THE cake of Texas??
Anywho, love your card. At first glance I thought your cupcake was made of felt. Then I read how you created it. Terriff!
