I decided to go for a mix of dainty and dirty to add texture! On the back, white layer, I added a coat of Ranger's crackle paint and let it dry as I was coloring my Annie LaPoint image. It adds some texture and dimension without over-powering the dainty image.
For the ground under the wheelbarrow, I used an Eclipse masking panel and ripped it. After laying it down over my image, I sponged creamy caramel ink onto my paper and the result was my dirt pile. I also used my Tonic paper distresser to rip up the edges of my white card stock layers and then rolled them with my fingers to feather the card stock. If you use a high-quality card stock, it will start to seperate and gives a really cool effect. I also pulled up the edges of my patterned paper and ripped it up a little.
The sentiment that comes with the set: Spread a Harvest of Hope, was begging to be used, but was throwing my card off balance, so once again, I decorated the inside of my card. :) I even decided to pull in the fun gingham ribbon I used on the front of the card and added a button. While it is not CONVENTIONAL to use embellishments on the inside of your card, it is FUN! :) I rarely am able to mail my cards in a regular envelope for $.44 (actually more like NEVER), so I don't pay much attention to how thick (or heavy) my cards get. Padded envelopes will hold your thick, heavy, bulky cards just fine! LOL
I hope you'll hop over to the MFT forum and play along in the challenge! (look for the week 8 challenge) You could win $10 in MFT Money! :)

You're killing me with those gorgeous bows. I'm gonna have to break down and get one of those bow maker thingies.

ReplyDeleteGREAT texture for sure! That crackle paint looks like a must have!! Fantastic card! I'm off to catch up on your blog...looks like there is a BUNCH of goodness happening here!
ReplyDeleteHi Jody ~ I've been lurking in the depths of your Blog lately, but HAD to leave a comment about your stunning masterpiece!
ReplyDeleteThis Annie LaPoint image is adorable, but how you constructed the card is brilliant. Your subtle aging of the CS now reminds me of worn and used pieces of leather :) And your bows are always PERFECT and look sooo puffy and fres! Haa!
Thanks for the lovely inspiration and suggestions on how to add texture and aging to a simple piece of cardstock =)
