Today, I am featuring a new stamp set from Lisa Johnson Designs, Stitched Stockings. As soon as I saw this stamp set, I knew I wanted to create a fireplace/mantle to hang them on. As simple as this card appears, there were quite a few steps to achieve the look and I took pictures along the way, which you will find at the bottom of this post. Keep scrolling for a tutorial. :)
The stockings were stamped in Wild Cherry ink on Whip Cream die-cuts cut using Stocking Trio Die-namics. I layered a couple of the embellishments by stamping a second time and cutting them out, to adhere on top.
Each stocking was hung from the mantle on a tiny copper brad with Hemp Cord. The mantle piece was stamped with the woodgrain plank image from Western Backgrounds.
The fireplace opening was created with Jumbo Rounded Banner STAX and the fireplace screen is the Picket Fence Die-namics cut from Kraft card stock and then sponged with brown ink.
I finished off the inside with another stocking and a sentiment included in the stamp set.
I took pictures along the way so I could show you how I created my fireplace scene.
Use a piece from Jumbo Rounded Banner STAX and cut toward the center of a piece of Card Stock.
I needed to mix up some grout, so I poured a little bit of Distress Crackle Paint into the lid of a spray bottle and mixed some reinker in it to color it slightly.
I painted the entire piece of card stock with my "grout" paint.
Next, I cut what seemed like a zillion pieces of Wild Cherry and Paver Red Card Stock to 1/2" X 1 1/2".
I wanted some variation in the color of the Wild Cherry bricks, so I airbrushed them with several colors of Copic N markers.
Once my grouted card stock layer was dry, I started adhering the bricks in a random pattern to the front. I didn't pay any attention to them hanging off the edges, as I knew I would trim it all off afterward. I used The Best Glue Ever to adhere them.
Here it is, completely covered.
Once it was dry, I used the same Jumbo Rounded Banner STAX die to trim the area around the fireplace opening and trimmed the outer edge with scissors.
Here it is after trimming off all the excess.
Next, I adhered a piece of whip cream on my back layer (Hot Fudge) and painted the surface that would show through with the same grout mixture to maintain a look of consistency for the "cement".
The Stitched Stockings were stamped on the Stocking Trio die-cuts and the small embellishments were pieced on to add more dimension.
I added a Hemp Cord loop to the back corner of each stocking.
I created a mantle by stamping a piece of Kraft Card Stock with the wood plank image from Western Backgrounds and scoring it to create a dimensional piece.
It is 1/4" deep, as wide as my card layer.
Before assembling, I added copper brads and hung the stockings from them.
I added a lower wood piece and a fireplace screen (Picket Fence - sponged).
Here is the finished card.
